Job Title: Lead Pastor


Job Summary:


Mission Baptist Church is seeking a highly qualified and experienced Lead Pastor to lead our English-speaking, multi-national congregation located in Pyeongtaek, South Korea.


Pyeongtaek is a city of approximately 500,000 people, and home to two U.S. military installations: Osan Air Base and USAG Humphreys. Mission Baptist Church is located within walking distance of Osan Air Base and approximately a twenty-five-minute drive from USAG Humphreys. The Lead Pastor will be responsible for faithfully modeling a godly example, providing spiritual leadership and direction to the congregation, overseeing the day-to-day operations of the church, and working with the elders and ministry leaders to ensure that Mission Baptist Church is faithfully accomplishing its mission, fulfilling its vision, and embodying its core values.


 


Key Responsibilities:


1. Model Biblical Faithfulness


The Lead Pastor is responsible for modeling a godly example by faithfully living out the qualities & traits of a pastor/elder; and embodying the core values of Mission Baptist Church.


The Lead Pastor should represent a growing relationship with Christ. The Lead Pastor models a strong relationship with his wife (if married) and children (if applicable). The Lead Pastor strives to fulfill his purpose in life and ministry while demonstrating integrity in words relationships, and actions.


These objectives are accomplished by:


● Meeting the qualifications of an Elder/Pastor that are defined by 1 Timothy 3:1-7, Titus 1:5-9, and 1 Peter 5:1-3


● Committing to a daily quiet time with God


● Participating in a Community Group of Mission Baptist on a regular basis with the goal of fostering intentional, relational discipleship opportunities.


● Setting appropriate boundaries to protect character and integrity


● Developing personal evangelism opportunities within and outside the church.


● Supporting the ministries of Mission Baptist Church by giving faithfully at least 10% of gross income.


2. Provide godly leadership to the ministry of Mission Baptist Church


The Lead Pastor is responsible for providing pastoral care and oversight to Mission Baptist Church, ensuring that its people and its resources are faithfully cared for and managed in a manner consistent with the mission, vision, and values of Mission Baptist Church.


These objectives are accomplished by:


● Facilitating the Sunday Morning worship gatherings


● Preaching biblically faithful, Christ-centered messages that communicate biblical principles in a way that is relevant and applicable to the lives of the congregation


● Praying faithfully for the members of Mission Baptist Church


● Providing spiritual guidance and pastoral care to the congregation


● Overseeing the Community Group ministries


● Teaching and leading in small, medium, and large group settings


● Administering the ordinances of Baptism & Lord’s Supper regularly, as well as weddings, funerals, etc. as needed.


● Developing and implementing programs and initiatives to meet the needs of the congregation and the surrounding community


● Building and leading a team of staff and lay volunteer leaders and members.


● Empowering individual members to utilize their gifts, talents, and abilities in service of the Lord and His church.


● Continuously evaluate and improve the church's programs and services to ensure that they are in alignment with the mission, vision, and values of Mission Baptist Church.


3. Provide administrative oversight to Mission Baptist Church


The Lead Pastor serves as the legal representative of Mission Baptist Church and is the first among equals within the elder board. The Lead Pastor is responsible for providing administrative oversight to Mission Baptist Church, ensuring that its people and its resources are managed in a manner consistent with the mission, vision, and values of Mission Baptist Church.


These objectives are accomplished by:


● Building and leading a team of staff and lay volunteer leaders and members


● Empowering staff and volunteer leaders to lead the ministries and operations


● Managing the church’s property and physical assets


● Managing the church's finances and budget, ensuring that all financial records are accurate and up-to-date


● Overseeing Mission Baptist Church’s public communication (advertising, website, social media, email, etc.)


● Serving as the legal representative of Mission Baptist Church


● Ensuring that Mission Baptist Church is operating in adherence to all federal and local laws


4. Foster partnerships with area ministries, ministry leaders, and missionaries to effectively accomplish the Great Commission beginning in Songtan, Osan, and the Greater Pyeongtaek area


The Lead Pastor is responsible for representing Mission Baptist Church before the local community and is to cultivate a working relationship with other missionaries, ministries, and organizations.


These objectives are accomplished by:


● Building relationships with local leaders


● Developing partnerships with other missionaries, ministries, and organizations


● Fostering a spirit of unity and cooperation among the area churches and local ministries


Qualifications:


● Meet the biblical qualifications of an elder/pastor


● A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited bible college or seminary


● Affiliated or able to be affiliated with the Baptist Bible Fellowship International as a current or eligible missionary.


● Possess a minimum of 3-5 years of pastoral experience, with a proven track record of successful leadership and management


● Aligns with the Mission/Vision/Philosophy/Core Values of Mission Baptist Church


● Strong preaching and teaching skills, with the ability to communicate biblical principles in a way that is relevant and applicable to contemporary life


● Possesses a deep commitment to personal evangelism and relational discipleship


● Demonstrated ability to develop, lead and motivate individuals and teams of volunteer leaders and members


● Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills


● Experienced in administration: including the areas of finance and facilities


● Familiarity with the international expat community and the challenges they face
