The Director of Music is responsible for the development, supervision, and implementation of all music ministries at Aldersgate, including children, youth, and adult music, and encompassing vocal and instrumental music in traditional and contemporary styles. The Director supports Aldersgate’s purpose “to be a significant place where disciples are made”, as well as “to focus on Christ-centered music, fellowship, friendship, and most importantly, the sharing of the gospel of Christ through music in song, worship, and special events” (from Music Ministry at Aldersgate UMC Mission Statement).
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Recruit, train, schedule, and provide spiritual leadership to all music related ministry teams
Serve as staff liaison to Worship Committee, working in conjunction with Committee Chairperson
Procure and maintain equipment needed for contemporary and traditional music performance, and collaborate with the audio/visual coordinator
Coordinate the set up and take down of all music ensembles, including wires, microphones, stands, risers, bell tables, and instruments
Collaborate with Gather Team to purchase music required for contemporary and traditional music performance, including regular review of latest pieces for possible inclusion in the contemporary service
Collaborate with the Senior Pastor and the worship design team in planning and developing the contemporary and traditional worship services
Submit weekly service information into worship planning software by the weekly deadline
Oversee the rehearsal and implementation of music for traditional and contemporary worship services
Direct Chancel Choir, including rehearsals and worship services
Oversee volunteer coordinators of music library and choir robes
Provide worship and musical leadership for Contemporary worship band
Direct Handbell Choir in rehearsals and worship
Oversee and develop volunteer directors of all current and emerging music ministries
Collaborate with the Organist
Attend weekly staff meetings
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in music and/or demonstrated skill in field
Evidence of a personal relationship with God, as well as mature faith
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and interact with people of all ages and backgrounds
Demonstrated organizational skills and willingness to work as part of a team
Demonstrated passion and joy for music and the worship of God
Dedication to bringing a diverse and inclusive approach to Music Ministry, incorporating musical elements from various genres and time periods.
