Job Description

Summary of Position:

The Pastor of Family Ministries will provide vision, energy, oversight, and direction to the Family
Ministries of The Ashland Church. The Family Ministries Pastor will work with and disciple
families to Christ, creating disciples of the next generation. They will promote Faith’s vision of
reaching people for Christ and building relationships with the lost within our community. They will also share our vision and their faith within the church body, our leaders, and
volunteers.

Personal Qualifications:

• Must be an energic self-starter that can function within the established vision of The Ashland Church to Love God, Grow Families, & Serve the Kingdom.
• Self-motivated person that is dependable and can work independently from staff when it is needed.
• A growing personal relationship with the Lord where seeking to constantly develop a personal heart for God, teachable in spirit, and a person of prayer are a must.
• Has had a definite call to ministry- specifically Family Ministry.
• Strong relationship skills with the ability to work closely with other Ministry Staff and Ministry Leaders.
• A person of integrity who has a good reputation with those inside and outside of the church.
In agreement with the doctrines and beliefs of the Church of God (Cleveland, Tenn.).

Knowledge/Gifts/Skills/Abilities/Experience:

• Experience in children, youth, and family ministry (2-5 years preferred)
• A bachelor’s degree is preferred; however, experience, licensing, and education from a recognized ministry program can be considered.
• Ability to connect relationally with parents, children, and the community of Ashland, Va.
• A passion for creating an environment for spiritual growth in children, youth, and their families.
• Strong leadership, organizational, administrative, and motivational skills.
• Proven ability to work with a team concept and allow others to grow in the vision of the Ashland Church.
• A willingness and ability to pioneer new things and inspire others to new initiatives
• Effective communication skills with the ability to teach and preach the word of God in an uplifting and encouraging manner.




As Staff Minister:

• Participate in weekly staff meetings.
• Participate in regular visitation and outreach opportunities
• Perform general pastoral ministry to the students, their families, & community
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Pastor as Family Pastor
• While we feel that the following responsibilities will help you achieve success at the Ashland Church, the Family Pastor will have the flexibility to use their creativity to develop new ministries and methods to reach and disciple students and their parents.
• Equipping students and adult volunteers to become Great Commission oriented.
• Lead the enlistment, training, and support of student leaders, parents, and volunteers.
• Work with youth/children’s teams in the promotion, planning, & implementation of activities, coordinating curriculum and events.
• Prepare and administer student budgets and designated accounts according to church policies.
• Maintain communication between various family ministries and parents.
• Oversee/lead ongoing weekly student activities, including Sunday School, The Ashland Journey, and Groups and activities on Wednesday Evenings.
• Provide, lead, and administer opportunities for experiences such as camps, girl’s jamboree, boys camp-out, talent contest, mission trips, outings, ministry projects, and other retreats that fit the growing family,
• Engage students outside of church by finding ways to spend time with them, such as attending extracurricular activities (band concerts, quiz bowl, sports events) whenever possible.
• Set annual student ministry goals & participate in personal training opportunities.
• Oversee background check procedures and child protection policy procedures per church policy.
• Maintain a strategy for reaching and encouraging new children, youth, and families into The Ashland Church.

Compensation:

• Full-time = 40+ hours/ flexible work week
• $30,000 per year + parsonage
• Benefits:
• Paid Holidays “Hanover County Schools Schedule.”
• Two weeks paid vacation (only one Sunday).
• Earn one PTO day per quarter with a maximum accrual of eight PTO days (Sundays not included in this program).
• Two percent Christmas Bonus paid the last week of November.
