The Next Steps Pastor is responsible for assisting newcomers to develop a sense of belonging and to help the current LIFE Church body to deepen that sense of belonging. This person is responsible for ensuring that the church is effective in disciple-making and that the congregation is taking their next steps to connect with one another, build community, and experience spiritual development through a strong, healthy, and growing LIFE Groups ministry. The person in this position will develop processes to integrate everyone at LIFE Church into appropriate church ministries that will (1) help them take their next steps for personal spiritual development, (2) provide serving and outreach opportunities, and (3) encourage the discipling of others


Accountable to: Sr. Associate Pastor


Primary Job Responsibilities:



  1. Lead the LIFE Church staff and volunteer teams in the development and implementation of a strategic process for assimilating and connecting people to the body of believers at LIFE Church

  2. Lead in the development and growth of a healthy adult LIFE Group ministry that connects people to one another and also connects people to God

  3. Provide guidance to the College, Student, Kids, & Pre-K ministers in developing and implementing strategic and healthy LIFE Groups

  4. Lead the LIFE Church staff and volunteer teams in the development and implementation of a strategic process for making disciples who in turn make other disciples

  5. Develop and implement strategic methods of recruiting a base of ministry team leaders and group participants that ensure a healthy group growth rate over time

  6. Plan and execute regular leader training and appreciation events, ensuring the existence of healthy leaders upon which to grow strong groups, assimilation, connection, and discipleship ministries

  7. Work with the Communications Director to create promotional materials and communication channels that ensure everyone at LIFE Church is aware of the LIFE Group ministry, its purpose, importance, and how to get connected

  8. Identify, develop, and/or select group curriculum and other group materials and tools

  9. Assist in the development of an annual budget and manage spending to budget

  10. Function as a team member of the church’s pastoral staff performing baptisms, weddings, funerals, weekend preaching/teaching, and leadership of staff alongside the Lead Pastor and Sr. Associate Pastor

  11. Perform other duties as assigned.


Staff Expectations:



  1. The Next Steps Pastor is expected to adhere to the guidelines and expectations outlined in the LIFE Church Personnel Manual

  2. The Next Steps Pastor is expected to uphold and exemplify the stated values and beliefs of LIFE Church and treat all members and co-workers with respect and the highest standards of professionalism

  3. The Next Steps Pastor is expected to conduct themselves to the best of their ability according to Biblical beliefs and standards.


Education and Experience



  1. Minimum of 5-7 years experience as a staff member in a ministry leadership capacity

  2. Minimum 2-3 years experience in a supervisory role

  3. Preferred 5 years of proven ability to recruit, develop, lead, and motivate volunteer teams

  4. Bachelor’s degree from accredited college or university – prefer degree in Biblical Studies or related field.

  8. An effective written and verbal communicator who consistently encourages and supports others

  9. Able to problem solve and resolve conflict

  10. Demonstrate a commitment to goals, strategies, and doctrinal statements of LIFE Church
