Children's Ministry Coordinator 


Sherman Church November 2021 


Position: Children’s Ministry Coordinator (Grade 1 – 6) 


To help children believe in Jesus Christ, grow in faith as Christ’s disciples, and develop healthy biblical patterns of Christian living in their homes, schools, community and world. The Children's Ministry Coordinator (CMC) is a teaching and support position that seeks to also partner with parents to equip them with the tools and opportunities to help strengthen their families to continue to grow together in faith in Jesus Christ. 


Qualifications: 


Formal training in Christian Education or Theological training and 2-3 years experience working as a paid or volunteer ministry coordinator – especially with children 6th grade and under; or similar experience teaching children and coordinating programs/activities for a minimum of 5 years. Experience in community outreach. Agreement with Statement of Faith of the Sherman Church and Conservative Christian Congregational Conference (CCCC). 


Objectives: 



  1. Instruct, and nurture children (Grade 1 – 6) in their Christian faith and in life, through prayer, fellowship, worship, service and missions. 

  2. To actively seek opportunities to encourage children in the community to partner with local schools and community groups to instill a love of service and missions among the children in our community. 


Competencies: 


The Children’s Ministry Coordinator should: 



  • Profess a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ. 

  • Proven ability to work independently and interdependently (team player). Demonstrate self-motivation, follow through and task completion. 

  • Verifiable strong interpersonal skills that include: compassion, sensitivity. ● Develop and maintain trusting relationships as well as being trustworthy. Proven ability to maintain and handle confidential matters. 

  • Proficient in technology to support curriculum. 


The responsibilities of this position are as follows: 



  1. Plan and coordinate a worship experience primarily focused on the scripture lesson, supplemented with music and other related activities for children Grade 1 – 6. 2. Help plan, organize and execute special seasonal programs including but not limited to; Vacation Bible School, Easter activities for kids, Christmas Pageant. 

  2. Attend monthly Christian Education meetings. 

  3. Maintenance of Sunday School rooms, materials, curriculum, attendance records and outreach to families. 


Reporting Relationships/Supervision and Compensation: 


The Children’s Ministry Coordinator position reports to the Pastor with oversight under the Deacon Committee and with direct support from the Christian Education Committee.


Formal performance reviews will take place to clarify, assess, and evaluate goals and develop  future expectations. 


This is a part time salaried position 10-15 hours per week. Hourly rate of $22 per hour. With successful demonstration and achievement of the above listed responsibilities, this position could grow to include the planning and executing of future teacher training programs for church members and additional hours may be added. 


Work hours for this position will vary depending on the season and growth of ministry and will  be determined based on experience and education and will be discussed at the time of hire.
