Job Summary

Job Description

The associate pastor works in cooperation with the lead pastor to ensure the spiritual needs and requirements of the church membership are met.  The associate pastor assists the lead pastor in guiding the church in its spiritual mission, looking after the spiritual well-being of the members, making sure the needs and concerns of the church are met in a timely and efficient manner, and leading the church in its efforts to evangelize and spread the good news of Jesus Christ.

Ideally, the associate pastor candidate has a passion for Christian education and youth ministry, as the primary focus for this position would be administering and leading all Christian educational activities at Mt. Olive  The candidate would be an integral part of worship services and would work closely with the lead pastor on various pastoral activities.  This will allow for flexibility for both the lead and associate pastors to share responsibilities for pastoral care.

The candidate would be comfortable with both traditional and contemporary worship services.  The associate pastor would work closely with the lead pastor on Christian education programs, worship, and other pastoral activities.  The associate pastor would be open to mentoring, coaching, and professional development; would take initiative; would be motivated and energetic; and would possess strong interpersonal skills.  The associate pastor will be expected to work well with people, manage conflict, and resolve problems effectively.

Candidates for this position should hold to Holy Scripture as the inspired and inerrant Word of God and affirm the Lutheran Confessions as a faithful interpretation of Holy Scripture.  Preference is given to those who hold a theological degree from an accredited seminary or institution of higher learning and who have either been ordained into pastoral ministry or are candidates for ordination.  Preference is also given to candidates with congregational ministry experience.
