Job Description

This posting is for a full-time, 12-month, exempt position. The Director is responsible for developing a ministry strategy and an implementation plan in consultation with the Advisory Council, which must be approved by the Vice President for Student Affairs and Athletics. This plan should encompass the administration and management of all religious life functions, fostering a Christian community, increasing spiritual awareness, providing safe spaces for spiritual discussion and reflection, and selecting, training, and supervising on-campus student ministry leaders.

 

Additionally, the Director is expected to build and cultivate strong, collaborative relationships with key partners, including the Churches of God Conference, College First Church, Bufford Center, Athletic Department, Admissions, Oiler Success, and other departments on campus.

 

Eligibility Qualifications: The Director of Campus Ministries must be ordained, or meet the requirements for license with privilege and making satisfactory progress toward ordination, by a conference within the Churches of God, General Conference, and be, or become, a member of a local CGGC congregation.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

This position requires regular, predictable, reliable attendance in the office environment.

 

Administrative Responsibilities

1. Prepare all manuals, forms, and reports related to religious life, ensuring adherence to policies and procedures as necessary.

2. Perform ceremonial religious duties, such as Baccalaureate services and commencement ceremonies, at official university functions as requested.

3. Collaborate with University Advancement to oversee all fundraising activities specific to Campus Ministries, which includes identifying potential donors, developing and implementing strategic plans to secure funding, and managing donor relationships.

4. Maintain an annual calendar documenting all administrative responsibilities, events, and deadlines related to the religious life area.

5. Supervise the operation of all Christian ministry spaces on campus.

6. Serve as the primary point of contact for local worshiping church bodies and representatives from national religious parachurch organizations.

7. Assist in preparing annual operating budgets for the department as requested.

8. Regularly interact with the Campus Ministry advisory board to develop ministry strategies and gather feedback on priorities and programming.

9. Maintain all web pages and social media accounts associated with Christian ministry at the university.

10. Assist in coordinating summer religious life offerings on the UF campus.

11. Oversee the distribution of Christian ministry scholarship funds while maintaining a working relationship with scholarship recipients throughout the academic year.

12. Foster relationships with ministry partners both in the community and beyond to recruit and retain potential students.

13. To nurture a mutually beneficial relationship with the local church, the Director of Campus Ministries will occasionally preach at community congregations, specifically emphasizing preaching at College First Church of God (limited to no more than eight times per year).

 

Programming and Student Development

1. Develop the structure and direction of religious programming for students, which includes, but is not limited to, worship, study, prayer, accountability, fellowship, and worship. All programming should align with the philosophy of The University of Findlay.

2. Resource and oversee a weekday, student-led worship service.

3. Manage a network of on-campus Bible studies and small groups, maintaining regular interaction with volunteer student leaders in each group.

4. Provide ongoing accountability and training for on-campus ministry leadership, equipping and empowering volunteer student leaders as they develop their leadership skills in Christian contexts.

5. Coordinate regular efforts for peer-to-peer student mentoring, as well as connections between students and community church members.

6. Offer consistent opportunities for fellowship and community building, engaging both the Christian community on campus and the wider campus community at different times.

7. Take an active role in the ongoing counseling of individual students to ensure their maximum growth, working in conjunction with the Director of Counseling Services as needed.

8. Serve as an advisor to assigned student organizations.

9. Regularly supervise and evaluate the religious atmosphere on campus, assessing the effectiveness of current programming and making necessary adjustments to develop new resources and materials.

10. Maintain a respectful environment for all students and staff, regardless of religious beliefs, and act as a point of contact and resource person for non-Christian religious groups on campus.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Direct supervision of the Assistant Director of Campus Ministries, interns, and student ministry leaders.

 

Work Environment

This position operates in a professional office environment and routinely utilizes standard office equipment.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a twelve-month position which includes a competitive salary, benefits. Due to the nature of the job, this position will require evenings and weekend work and some travel.

 

Travel

Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-the-area travel may be expected.

 

A valid US Drivers’ license with a safe driving record is required.

 

Required Education and Experience

1. Minimum of three years’ experience in pastoral ministry

2. Bachelor’s Degree

3. Ordained, or meet the requirements for license with privilege and making satisfactory progress toward ordination, by a conference within the Churches of God, General Conference, and be, or become, a member of a local CGGC congregation.

 

Preferred Education and Experience

1. Completion or in process of obtaining a Masters of Divinity or a related field

2. Knowledge of and experience with collegiate ministry settings.
