PART TIME (25 HOURS BUDGETED)

Director of Family Ministries

South United Methodist Church

Position Objective:

The Director of Family Ministries will provide leadership for a comprehensive ministry to Children, Youth, and Young Adults which is designed to develop, lead, and grow a dynamic and engaging ministry that fosters spiritual growth, discipleship, and meaningful connections among families, children, and youth at South United Methodist Church (SUMC).

The responsibilities include:

Leadership & Program Development:

  • Lead and work with the Education Committee leadership and teachers todevelop and implement annual programs for Sunday School including VBS, youth ministry, young adult programming, and family programs that include outreach, study, worship, service, mission, and recreational
  • Enhance Sunday worship experiences by integrating family-friendly elements, intergenerational worship, and creative
  • Create, implement, and lead new family ministries at SUMC.
  • Lead efforts to connect and engage families in the life of the church through outreach, social events, and mission opportunities.

Volunteer Recruitment & Training:

  • Actively recruit, train, and support a team of volunteers to assist in leading the children, youth, and family ministry.
  • Develop mentorship and leadership opportunities for children and youth, encouraging them to take an active role in church life.
  • Ensure all activities align with the mission, vision, and values of SUMC and adhere to Safe Sanctuary policies for a secure environment.

Community Building & Communication

  • Partner with local organizations and community groups to strengthen outreach and service initiatives.
  • Provide a safe and welcoming space for adolescents to share their experiences, questions, and concerns.
  • Communicate effectively with families and the congregation through newsletters, social media, email, and church announcements.

 

Other Duties & Compliance:

  • Teach and lead various events and programs as required or necessary.
  • The Director of Family Ministries will be subjectto the Criminal Offense Record Investigation (CORI).
  • Perform other appropriate duties as requested by the pastor and SPRC.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in ministry, education, child development, or a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in family, children's, or youth ministry within a church or faith-based organization.Prefer a background in the United Methodist faith.
  • Strongleadership, interpersonal, and communication skills demonstrating the ability to work collaboratively with pastor, staff, volunteers, and community partners to strengthen church ministries.
  • Experience coordinatingprograms and their associated budgets.
  • Demonstrated abilitydeveloping and managing a volunteer
  • Proficiency in computer skills, digital communication, social media, and event promotion to engage families effectively.

Necessary Attributes:

  • A strong Christian faith and practice, an ability to reflect theologically, reflecting the ethics, values and standards of Jesus Christ.Prefer a background in the United Methodist faith.
  • Can easily relate to parents, children and youth.
